How Can a College Student Open His Own Restaurant in St. Louis
(StLouisRestaurantReview) Owning a successful restaurant is one of the goals that most college students have.  It’s a goal that was about to be shuttered a few years back when COVID-19 hit almost every nation in the world.  While most restaurants have resumed their operations, the effects of the pandemic are still being felt today.  Starting and operating a restaurant is not a walk in the park, especially for college students.  Apart from putting in the time and work on your business, you have to attend classes, complete your assignments on time, and prepare for upcoming tests.  While running a business in college might seem impossible, it’s doable.  When you stretch yourself and develop important skills on college campuses, you will unlock your potential and achieve your biggest goals.

Starting a restaurant in St. Louis

Louis has one of the loveliest landscapes in the world.  It is home to diverse communities.  Since there are a lot of things to see and do, most tourists flock to this city to take in everything that it provides.  The city has an amazing personality thus machining it unique in the United States.  Therefore, checking your writing tasks on Fixgerald – an online plagiarism checker tool with no word limit and starting a restaurant in this city will make it easier for you to achieve your goals as an entrepreneur in the long run.  In this article, we are going to share with you a few points that you should keep in mind before opening your first restaurant in St. Louis.

Choose your concept and brand.

If you’ve always wanted to start a restaurant, you must take some time to think about your concept and brand.  One of the fun parts of the planning process of your business is choosing a concept.  You need to brainstorm and come up with ideas about the type of restaurant you want to start and the service styles that you’ll employ.  Your restaurant’s interior should complement your concept.  Some of the common restaurant concepts that can help your business thrive in St Louis include:

- A restaurant with a ghost kitchen serving vegan food for delivery only

- A fast-food restaurant specializing in creating delicious food using secret ingredients

- A fine restaurant that offers French delicacies

- The brand of your restaurant should be specific and communicate your mission to the general public.  The logo, name, and menu design of your restaurant should represent your brand comprehensively.  The channels that you use to advertise should rely on your brand identity.

Come up with your menu.

The next creative thing that you have to do before starting your business is come up with a menu.  Choosing the menu items that will be featured should be an enjoyable process.  However, you need to make your decisions carefully.  Your menu will help you figure out the equipment you need, the skills that your staff should possess, and the clients that you want to attract.  For example, if you’ll be preparing French pastries, you’ll need supplies and a chef who is qualified to prepare a delicious meal.  You also need to think about your target market.  If you land a good deal on leasing space, you should tailor your space to suit your customers.

Write a business plan.

You need to have a solid business plan to start any successful business.  If you’ve never written one, you might have a hard time starting.  However, it’s not impossible.  In most instances, your business plan will be divided into sections that describe important aspects of your business such as the concept and financials.  The purpose of this document is to help you summarize the fine details of your business to an investor.

Get funding for your restaurant.

Another important thing that you need to consider is obtaining funding for your restaurant.  Most students don’t have enough money to cover all the costs of starting a new restaurant.  Therefore, being on the lookout for other sources can help you make your dream come true.  Start by estimating the startup costs together with daily operation costs.  This information will help you prepare for the future.  You can obtain funding from investors or a financial institution.  Look at all the options you have together with their pros and cons.  At the end of the day, you’ll discover what works for you.

Obtain restaurant permits

You must have federal and local licenses and permits before you start your restaurant in St. Louis.  It’s important to seek legal help from an expert to ensure that you don’t miss anything during the process.  Failure to adhere to the rules and regulations will make it harder for you to operate your business.  No one wants to be associated with a business that doesn’t follow the rule of law.

Conclusion

There are a lot of things that you should know before starting a restaurant in St. Louis.  As a college student, you might have a hard time balancing academics and your business.  While it’s not easy, it doesn’t mean that it’s impossible.  All you have to do is manage your time effectively and follow the steps and tips that we’ve outlined in this article.  Do not hesitate to seek help when you need it.  By cooperating with others, you will achieve your biggest goals easily.

Thai Kitchen - O'Fallon Uses Robot for Table Delivery
Thai Kitchen - O'Fallon has deployed a robot to deliver food to the tables.  Customers love it!

O'FALLON, MO (StLouisRestaurantReview) Thai Kitchen - O'Fallon has subscribed to a robotic service to help deliver food to the tables and relieve staff stress.

It was initially subscribed to for promotional purposes, but the customers loved it so much that they began using it to deliver food.

They have subscribed to one, but they are expanding their dining facility, adding another 1219 square feet, so a second robot is under consideration.  The new space should be open in January 2023.

The robot is manufactured and maintained by Bear Robotics, located in California.

The local reseller is St. Charles Restaurant Equipment, which helped Thai Kitchen - O'Fallon subscribe to the service.

The cost is approximately $30 per day, but it is less expensive than an employee, allowing servers to cover additional tables without another staff person.  Hiring staff is challenging, but robots will help reduce the need for additional staffing, and customers love the technical aspect of it.

Thai Kitchen - O'Fallon is located at 8632 Mexico Rd in O'Fallon, Missouri.

Why You Should Open Your St. Louis Missouri Restaurant near College Campuses
(StLouisRestaurantReview) In the past, students were restaurant owners’ least favorite group of customers.  Most students are on a limited budget, so they cannot afford expensive meals, and their tips are almost always small.  However, if you stop to consider that most students dine exclusively outside, this might just push you to change your opinion.

As a matter of fact, this should definitely change your opinion about it.  If you are thinking about opening a St. Louis, Missouri restaurant, a location near the college campuses has a very good chance to make your business profitable – and fast.

Reasons Why a Near-Campus Restaurant is a Good Idea

Let’s take a look at the reasons why.

- Students Don’t Have the Time to Cook

Adults have bigger budgets and can afford more expensive meals – and leave you a big tip.  But, when you stop to consider that most adults eat outside rarely, this might just be the most profitable target group to focus on.

The majority of students these days are too busy handling their tasks and studying to get the best grades.  Some of them will find some time to cook at home because they’ll hire a writing service to help them.  They go online to get professional help from a personal statement writer when they want to enjoy quick results and ensure that they get accepted in school.  Still, their schedule is often packed even with some help, so most of the time, students will get ready food from restaurants.

So, even if the student has a limited budget and cannot afford expensive meals, you’ll get a crowd of customers for breakfast, lunch, dinner – and even night snacks on a regular basis.  This adds up to a lot, making students one of the best target groups for restaurateurs!

Research shows that 81% of adults dine outside at least once a month.  Only 28% of these eat once a week!  A student on a busy schedule that lives on campus, possibly without conditions to prepare meals, will mostly eat outside – at least 4-5 days a week!

Diverse Clientele

College areas don’t limit you to students only.  You’ll never get a shortage of customers, even when students are on their break.  Think about all the prospective students and their visiting families, too.  They’ll get hungry when they visit the campus and need to eat!

Restaurants near college campuses cater to many educational events and attract people that live in the area, too.  Since most students prefer getting take-outs to be able to snack while they study, this can attract a passerby that’s not a student, too.

If you create a menu that is attractive for students, you can make your restaurant a desired dining spot for many.  Just think about it – students don’t have a lot of time, so they’ll get something fast.  They’ll want healthy meals to keep their brains energized to study and snacks they can consume between study breaks or when they are in rush.

Such meals are popular with many people today because life is busier than ever!

A Lot of Turnover

Speaking of speedy eating, you’ll find that most students don’t stick around for hours dining at restaurants.  They don’t have the time – or don’t really fancy spending hours at restaurants.  They’ll better spend their free time with friends or at a party, so most of the people in your restaurant will just eat and leave – or even take it to go!

This allows you to serve more people because of the quick turnover.

Non-stop Work

Unlike adults that sleep through the night and go to work in the morning, you’ll get students to your restaurant all the time!  Consider working night shifts to cater to the needs of those who prefer to study at night!  If you have delivery, you’ll deliver food to hungry learners 24/7 and even feed the hungry students at their parties!

Growing College Population

Every year, there are more and more students in colleges around the world.  Thanks to scholarships and college loans, more young people have the opportunity to pursue higher education and get more prospects for higher-paid jobs afterward.

It’s always smart to invest in an industry that experiences a continuous rise in the customer base.  This is definitely one such opportunity.

Wrapping Up

Opening your restaurant in a college area can be a very profitable move, but you need to tailor your offers to your targeted customer – the student.  So, prepare a diverse menu that meets their needs, get techy, and offer them perks such as late delivery and takeout.  With the right menu, great service, and delivery options, this can be a very busy, very profitable business for you!

Walnut Grill - Ellisville to Close Immediately
Walnut Grill is to close their Ellisville location effective immediately.

ELLISVILLE, MO (StLouisRestaurantReview) In a shocking Facebook post, Walnut Grill announced this afternoon that they would be closing their Ellisville location immediately and consolidating to the other locations, specifically in West County, the Chesterfield Valley location.

According to their announcement, they have been at that location for eight years.

We have been warned that this trend would occur for a significant amount of time and could never resolve itself.  This has been a challenging time for the restaurant industry, with no end in sight.

We regret this event but understand the situation.

We offer our most sincere apology to the owners of Walnut Grill and wish them luck in their future challenges and decisions.

STL Restaurant Review adds Thai Food Videos
St. Louis Restaurant Review adds Thai food videos to the media library.

ST LOUIS, MO (StLouisRestaurantReview) We are beginning to build our video library of popular food-related videos.  We will start with videos relating to authentic foods from Mexico and Thailand.  They are the most popular cuisines in the country.

St. Louis is blessed to have some excellent restaurants, many serving authentic cuisines, and many are not the popular hot spots that are over-commercialized.  We will use the videos to help you discover authentic cuisines in the St. Louis region.  The only required travel is to drive to locally-owned restaurants that serve authentic cuisines.  Our job is to help you find those places.

Our parent company has provided digital marketing services to the restaurant industry.  We have discovered that the best restaurants are not always the most popular.  They create great cuisines but are not good at marketing.  The hot spots are better at marketing, not necessarily making the best dining experience.

Our mission is to help consumers find their favorite cuisines and connect them with the best establishments.  Unfortunately, many ethnic restaurants may have trouble communicating with companies that can help them promote their establishments.  We are here to help both sides.

Ethnic foods help people to understand each other and create relationships.  It is tasty but educational and intriguing to learn about how other people have survived for centuries.  While America appears to be divided, the difficulty comes from the lack of understanding, but most importantly, the willingness to see the beauty of each culture.  The different cultures can learn from each other to escalate the knowledge and progress that each country in the world needs to survive and progress.

America is new compared to other cultures that have existed for thousands of years.  We are a country where different cultures created our population, but we are divided.  This makes no sense to me.  America is not perfect.  China is not perfect!  No country is perfect, but we can learn from each other, and rather than be intimidated by each other, learn more about each other and learn to embrace and love the differences.  The world would be extremely boring if all countries were the same.

We will use the videos on YouTube and connect them to local establishments that serve authentic cuisines.  While there are many great Thai restaurants in the St. Louis region, one of the best-kept secrets is Thai Kitchen.  The owner, Andie (American name), was born and raised in Thailand.  She owned a restaurant in Bangkok and sold it to move to the US.  The recipes are from her mother, who helps cook using authentic Thai ingredients.  In addition, most of the staff are from Thailand.  So if you want to experience the Thai culture, Thai Kitchen is one of the best options in this region.  Recently, we named Andie our "Restaurateur of the Year Award - 2022."

We hope you enjoy our food videos designed to bring cultures worldwide to St. Louis.

Restaurant Health Inspection Report - St. Louis County
St. Louis Restaurant Review publishes restaurants' health inspection scores; Lemay Garden Restaurant deserves special credit for its health inspection scores.

St. Louis County, MO (StLouisRestaurantReview) We reviewed St. Louis County health inspection scores and created a list that deserves special recognition or an alert to be cautious.  The focus of our restaurant-related content is online customer reviews and health inspection reports.  This is the best and most reliable information available, and we will enhance the quality of its visibility and make it user-friendly.

We consider this an important topic.  Unfortunately, restaurants were the most severely impacted by the recent pandemic and related lockdowns.  However, many restaurant owners sharpened their pencils and cleaned up their establishments to retain business and protect their employees and customers.  We hope restaurants that took such action continue to be committed to protecting the public in the future.

Those that achieve high scores deserve special recognition.  However, those below average and who have a history of below-average scores will probably not appreciate our content.  So clean up your act if you don't want to be recognized for poor health inspection scores.  It's that simple!

The information was obtained from the St. Louis County website.  Our list will grow and change regularly.  The scores are subject to change without notice.  High scores are the best indication but don't be afraid to make your judgment, and if you see something of serious concern, we recommend you notify the local health department.

STL Restaurant Review begins monitoring Health Inspection Reports
ST LOUIS, MO (StLouisRestaurantReview) St. Louis Restaurant Review has added a link on its home page to make it easy to view health inspection reports provided by the St. Louis Health Department.

We will start monitoring the inspection results and praising those restaurants that reach respectable scores.  Our opinion of a decent score is nothing less than 96%.  We consider 90% to 95% neutral, and anything less than 90% should be avoided.  Naturally, 100% is an excellent score, but that isn't easy even for restaurants with the best intentions.  Nevertheless, they exist, and we feel they deserve special recognition for their efforts.

Considering the recent pandemic related to the spread of COVID, all restaurants should do everything within their reasonable power to protect the public from any diseases that could be spread from their facility.

We will take into consideration their historical scores.  If a restaurant gets one bad score, we will not interrupt that as the typical pattern, but if an establishment has a pattern of low scores, it will be written and published, but again, we will recognize those with high scores.

The perfect establishment has high online customer reviews and a typical pattern of high health inspection scores.  We will help filter the list to help our readers find the best and safest restaurants to dine at.

We want to congratulate the restaurants mentioned for their contribution to the city.  St. Louis is also blessed with many old established family-owned restaurants that date back many decades.  Most have been overlooked because residents have taken them for granted because they are solid and stable and always available to provide great cuisines and service.  Nonetheless, this is excellent news for these establishments and the community.  Again, congratulations! Patty's Cheesecakes is giving people reasons to smile
Patty's Cheesecakes - you are somebody's reason to smile.  So while that is her slogan, she is also giving people reasons to smile.

ST LOUIS, MO (StLouisRestaurantReview) Our featured talent is Pat Upchurch, owner, and founder of Patty's Cheesecakes.  Her slogan is "you are somebody's reason to smile."  However, Patty has made her slogan her life's work because she offers cheesecakes that make people smile.

We would feel comfortable saying that most people love cheesecakes.  However, I can honestly write that I have never met a person who does not love cheesecake.  I am sure they exist, but I don't know anybody!

We like to discover those people with unique talents and skills that love to create foods that people love.  The type of person whose passion is pleasing others with their unique creations.

There are many people with unique cooking talents in the St. Louis area.  The challenge is to find them, find them early, and find them before they give up or fail before their creations become popular.  Unfortunately, it is a tough market to break and succeed in due to the overwhelming competition.  Only the best talent with the best marketing and connections will succeed.

We believe that we have found what we believe can be one of the hottest dessert bakeries in the region.  She possesses all of the necessary ingredients to succeed.

We discovered this talent while researching the City Foundry STL.  She has a kitchen at the new food hall that we have been exploring to learn about everything the City Foundry offers and will offer in the future.

We met with Patty and discovered somebody who loves their job and takes it seriously, investing her heart and soul into the business venture backed by family recipes that have been passed down to her from her grandmother.

She started her business in 2013, but her passion for cooking was embedded in her by her grandmother, Ophelia Reese, and her father, Andrew Gregory, who was a chef at the Chase Park Plaza.

Patty started at the Bakers Hub in Chesterfield, Missouri, but outgrew the small shared bakery as demand for her product grew.

In addition to her location at the Foundry STL, Patty sells her cheesecakes online, in select Schnucks stores, Fresh Thyme Food Market (City Foundry STL location), and wholesale to restaurants and caterers.

Patty offers three sizes of cheesecakes, 7 or 9 inch and petite size, which is my favorite because you can buy two or three different flavors to enjoy without looking like an out-of-control foodie.

Patty's Cheesecake menu is as follows:

NOTES:

- All Flavors may not be available at their bakery location.

- They change their bakery flavors monthly - check their social media for the latest updates.

St. Louis Restaurant Review - Restaurateur of the Year Award - 2022
St. Louis Restaurant Reviews awards Restaurateur of the Year Award - 2022 to Sasimonthon Ongartsutthikul, owner of Thai Kitchen restaurants.

ST LOUIS, MO (StLouisRestaurantReview) St. Louis Restaurant Review is excited to announce our first award.  The award is "Restaurateur of the Year Award."

We have been online publishing restaurant reviews and news since 2014.  Each year, this award will be given guidelines to ensure we find the best restaurateurs in the St. Louis region.  Operating a successful restaurant is one of the most challenging small businesses to operate.  They require a big focus, sufficient cash flow, and understanding of managing employees and meeting customers' expectations.  It is a big challenge!  Unfortunately, the past two years have been even more challenging due to the pandemic.

Our selection makes the challenge appear easy, but we learned how hard she works and how dedicated she is to her employees and customers, which has resulted in both returning the same to her.  She leads by example!

We are honored to award the St. Louis Restaurant Review Restaurateur Award - 2022 to Sasimonthon Ongartsutthikul.  She goes by Andie.  She is the owner of the Thai Kitchen chain, and all locations have award-winning online customer reviews.

Currently, Andie owns three Thai Kitchen locations, but four exists in the St. Louis region.  She owns and manages the locations in O'Fallon, St. Charles, and Wentzville, while her brother and sister-in-law own and operate the Florissant location.

- Florissant, MO (owned by Andie's brother and sister-in-law)

- O'Fallon, MO

- St. Charles, MO

- Wentzville, MO

Her recipes are secret family recipes, and her mother, Rose, who is 74 years old, works with Andie to contribute to the family's success.  In addition, Andies' restaurants have impressive support from her three daughters, Pam, Nickie, and Katie.

Andie migrated from Thailand to the U.S. in 1995.  She owned a restaurant in Bangkok and sold it to relocate with her husband and children.  Her challenges in life prepared her for the success that she is experiencing now.  Her character, wisdom, and hard work create the foundation of her success.

She opened her first U.S. restaurant in 1997 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and since has opened and sold fifteen restaurants to various family members and other restauranteurs.

Her success is well deserved after many challenges faced in her life.  However, the pandemic is not her most significant challenge because she survived and opened a new location during the pandemic, which has been successful.

The most exciting factor is that she does not take her success for granted.  She appreciates her customers, employees, and family for their support.  She made the statement to us that "I couldn't have done it without them."  She appreciates what vendors do to help her each day and is not afraid to express her appreciation.  As respect and humble appreciation become impossible to find in everyday life, it is refreshing and easy to appreciate once you find it.

After spending a significant amount of time with Andie, it is apparent that the most crucial component to her success is her desire to make her customers happy.  This is evident by the locations' online customer reviews and simply watching her work.  She commonly knows the customers by name and monitors everything in the restaurant to ensure they meet her standards.

She visits most locations regularly and knows everything going on.  She is supported and loved by a loyal and dedicated staff.  Most of the employees are from Thailand, making management easy while helping to create the Thai atmosphere that exists at each location.

However, the most outstanding support is her customers.  Her online reviews rank her restaurants at impressive, award-winning levels making any restaurant owner jealous of the love shared online.

Unfortunately, many restaurant owners ignore negative reviews and constructively take criticism.  However, Andie and her employees ensure that the customers are happy before leaving her establishments.  The employees are kind and well trained.  They understand her expectations and perform accordingly.

As written by Wikipedia, Thai cuisines are among the most loved cuisines globally.

It could have been a difficult decision with hundreds of quality top-rated restaurants in the St. Louis region.  However, considering the following factors and getting to know Andie, the decision became easy.

Factors we considered to make our decision:

- Online customer reviews

- History of owner

- Performance of owner

- Employee loyalty and satisfaction

- Financial stability of establishment

All Thai Kitchen locations offer online ordering, delivery, and dine-in.  All locations are clean and disinfected to protect the staff and customers.

The results of Andie's efforts are excellent Thai cuisines prepared and served to great customers who appreciate the hard work of a great restaurateur, entitling her to the Restaurateur of the Year Award - 2022.
